Pre-Procedure

Your doctor will discuss your operation or procedure with you. You will be asked to complete a health history survey.  This will be sent to Robinwood Surgery Center for review prior to your surgery. Some patients may need lab work or an EKG prior to their procedure.  You will be advised if any testing is required.

Shortly after your surgery is scheduled, you will receive a letter confirming your surgery date and possibly information regarding financial obligations.  You will receive a phone call from a member of our staff the week before your visit.  At this time your medical information will be reviewed and you will receive important instructions concerning your procedure.  If you have no telephone or are difficult to reach, we ask that you call Robinwood Surgery Center one week prior to your surgery between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  It is extremely important that you receive some pre-procedure instructions, otherwise, your surgery may be cancelled.

If you are scheduled to have anesthesia or sedation during your surgery, you MUST make arrangements for someone to drive you home.  The person driving you home must be at least 18 years of age and a licensed driver.  If you must travel by public transportation (taxi), you will need a responsible adult (age 18) to accompany you home.  If you are unable to arrange an escort, please inform us as soon as possible, as it will be necessary to reschedule your procedure.  We STRONGLY RECOMMEND having someone stay with you for the first 24 hours following your procedure.

Patients under the age of 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian present at all times during their stay.

If a change occurs in your physical condition prior to your surgery (such as a rash, sore throat, cough, fever, or upset stomach) please notify your doctor and the center.  The doctor may wish to reschedule your surgery.

Pain control is important for your recovery as well as your comfort.  Please work with your physician and healthcare professionals to manage your pain.  We will ask you to measure or rate your pain on a number scale (0-10) or with descriptive words. Reporting your pain helps your health care providers know how well your treatment is working and whether any changes need to be made.  We will review this pain management information with you at the time of the pre-operative phone call and upon your arrival to the center.
