Before Surgery

Before your surgery, you should follow these important safety rules.  If not followed, your operation may be delayed or cancelled:

  1. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery unless your doctor instructs otherwise.  This includes food, liquids, water, candy, lozenges, gum and chewing tobacco.
  2. Do not smoke after midnight the night before your surgery.
  3. Do not drink any alcoholic beverages for 24 hours before your procedure.
  4. If you take insulin, blood thinners, or medications (including vitamins and herbal preparations) please tell your surgeon and Robinwood Surgery Center staff.  Most routine medication can be taken on the day of your procedure.  However, please stop taking any herbal supplements two weeks prior to your visit.  Specific instructions will be reviewed during the phone interview.
  5. Please do not bring children to Robinwood Surgery Center unless they are having surgery.
  6. Please do not bring valuables such as jewelry.
